Surface Water Rebates

The definition of surface water drainage can be defined as rainwater that falls on a property and drains away.

Water authorities charge around £1 Billion per annum for surface water drainage that drains into their public sewers although if rainwater does not drain from your property into a public sewer, you may be entitled to a surface water drainage rebate.

Changes in the rules governing surface water drainage mean that if some of the rainwater does not enter a public sewer and it flows into a brook, a soak away or similar, you may be entitled to a reduction in surface water drainage and in some cases a rebate or refund.

The water authorities are not aware of individual arrangements for each property in the area and tend to assume that all rainwater enters the public sewer network, this means that in order to reduce water costs and obtain a rebate, you to you would need to file an application.
